• This is the time I feel confident to confirm that the journey is as fundamental as the destination. I on-boarded with zero professional experience and did not know anyone in San Francisco. Within my first year at SF State, I landed my first professional career opportunity and had built genuine relationships with thought leaders in the marketing field thanks to our on-campus career resources and coaching. Having taken business and communications courses and executing hands-on projects, nuisances such as public speaking and network building quickly became second nature. I might forget words or quotes from books, but I will never forget the can-do attitude that SF State has helped me build over the years. There will always be those times you find yourself lacking resources, but always remember that your resourcefulness is what will help you get those resources you need to accomplish your goals. Always be curious, reach out to people for help, and be of value to others. I feel proud to call SF State my career foundation and San Francisco my home. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Mr. Orlando Harris, Chris Kingston, and Sanjit Sengupta for their unconditional guidance and support and for being inspiring mentors. I wish you all the best my fellow Gators. There are countless opportunities ahead of you so go pursue them. My words of wisdom: 1. Stay focused with your vision and be flexible with steps you take to achieve that vision 2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and make yourself available to others and 3. Mistakes are a part of the experience. Mistakes become failures only if no action is taken to correct them

During her graduate studies at SF State, she was an active member of NABA (National Association of Black Accountants) and GSAA (Graduate Students in Accounting Association). Furthermore, in 2014, Adaora was among the recipients of NABA’s national scholarship. After graduating, she received an offer to work for Ernst & Young, where she worked as an assurance associate for almost two years. She later transitioned industries and worked from Gracenote for a little shy of two years. Adaora has also obtained her CPA license and currently works as a senior corporate accountant for SunRun, where she plans to further develop her career.

  • Nick is originally from the San Diego area and transferred to SF State in 2009. He graduated with a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. After graduation, Nick was extremely impassioned by the ongoing environmental challenges created by pollution. He joined a non-profit solar company and installed free residential solar systems for low-income households. From there, Nick joined a for-profit solar company and began his sales career. Sunrun allowed him to be a part of a growing, brand-new company. He got to see the company announce their IPO, and was given an opportunity to make a career change into sales recruiting. He is now a member of the San Francisco Sales Recruiting team for Yelp, and is continuing to grow and expand an award-winning sales program!

  • Being apart of the CSLD & the PLFP has helped me grow both professionally & personally. When i first started, I was shy about sharing my accomplishments and achievements but doing the Big Interview questions, meeting with individuals from the CSLD and working on my handshake profile has helped me gained more confidence in preparing for interviews and speaking more. Because of the fellows program and CSLD, I received an offer as a Director for this summer for a technology company and will be starting Law School this Fall. Thank you to the CSLD for the amazing feedback and for assisting me with getting this new position. I highly recommend it to any student because what you put into it is what you will gain from it.
